What are quality carbs exactly?

Written by Lindsey Kaszuba

It’s no surprise that carbs have a complicated reputation. The diet culture world has labeled them as “bad” and you often hear people trying “low carb” or “no carb” diets.

But guess what? You don’t have to give up carbs!

Here’s the truth about how to incorporate them into your diet with mindfulness and health in mind:

Firstly, focus on bringing in MORE quality foods. Quality carbs are energy and are filled with fiber and nutrients.

One of my favorite processes to teach my clients is "crowding out". This is when we focus on adding in MORE fruits, vegetables, and quality carbs and proteins.

It can become confusing to really identity what quality carbs are…cue why I’ve written this blog post 😉

Here’s a simple breakdown of QUALITY carbs ⬇️

-fruits and vegetables

-whole wheat and grains (quinoa, brown rice)

-nuts and seeds

Non-quality carbs include:

-white rice and white bread

-baked goods such as cakes and pastries

-sugary breakfast cereals

As a bonus for getting this far down, here are two of my favorite quality carb recipes. Both of which are staples in my house! Green pancakes and creamy cashew pasta. The pancakes are so fun and packed with nutrients - the kids love them.
